SCHOOL GARDEN HELP?

Without classrooms visiting school gardens this fall, we are missing the many hands that usually help put the gardens to bed for the winter. And we just miss the students in general! If you would like to help winterize gardens, please visit our website to volunteer. Families are welcome. (Note: we have COVID-19 safety protocols in place to keep everyone safe)

More cooking classes for kids ages 5+ on Zoom are open for registration! Classes take place on Tuesdays 4:00-5:00pm – just in time for you to enjoy what your kids made at dinner!  Sign up to secure your spot in one of the next classes (Veggie Sushi, Mixed Greens Pesto with Plant Part Sandwiches, and ABC Salad!). – with love from Common Threads Farm. https://commonthreadsfarm.org/

MEDICARE CHOICES ASSISTANCE

During this annual period of Medicare renewal, Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA) offer free one-on-one assistance or seminars by trained volunteers who can go over your options and help you figure out costs and benefits, offered thru the WA State Insurance Commissioner’s office.  https://www.insurance.wa.gov/statewide-health-insurance…

TUTORING & WEBSITES

I found a wonderful web designer through Fl!p’s newsletter (Nate Melanson), and he created a great website for my new tutoring service http://openmindswa.com. I offer 35 years of experience, K-8 WA teaching certificate, and sliding scale fees (including several no cost tutoring slots for children who qualify for free lunch) to our students. I’d be happy to hear from interested parents and students.  Warmly,  ~ Kara Black 360-676-2300

FREE LARGE LACE-CAP HYDRANGEA

Big mature lacecap hydrangea, about 6’x7’.  Beautiful and healthy, but has become too big for our yard.  If you dig it up and remove it, it’s yours!  The challenge:  because of the location it would need to be dug and removed from the bed manually— no heavy equipment.  Muscles only!  E-mail if you’re interested or interested in seeing it. ~ Terry Wissler, Cherry Street. terrywiss@gmail.com

FREE SUNFLOWER PLANTS

I’m digging out some of my Lemon Queen sunflowers, which I love, but which has slowly spread over the years and is now too big for its space! It’s in clumps. in a pile on the north side of my front yard, at 2425 Kulshan St. Help yourself! ~ Becky Curtis, Kulshan St.

GUTTERS?

I am looking for someone to clean the gutters on my house.  Pleas contact me at pattisuejb@yahoo.comPat Brown

POST OFFICE?

We need someone to pick up a bunch of stamps for us. Zeke is writing letters to help remind people to vote, and we’re running low on stamps, and maybe on envelopes too. I don’t think we have time to order online at this point.

RADIO FREE FL!P: OCTOBER ROSES

We got a little sun this afternoon and I was out in the garden and noticed a new bud opening on the moss rose back by the garage. And of course, I thought of this song. Linda wrote this song for her own mother many years ago. She lived in our Columbia neighborhood for decades and raised her children here on Utter Street.
