CONTACT TRACING SCAMS

According to the health department website, legitimate contact tracers will not ask:
▪ For any financial information.
▪ For any personal information beyond name, address, phone number and date of birth.
▪ About your immigration status.
▪ For your Social Security number.
▪ For any fees or payment associated with contract tracing.
The Federal Trade Commission re-emphasized those points and added that it is important not to download anything sent from a contact tracer in an email or text. Real contact tracers will only send text messages saying that they will be calling you and will never ask you to click on any links or download anything.

FACE SHIELDS?

From BetsyBrownMD.substack.com
A warning study from Switzerland that showed that everyone that wore a face shield but no mask got COVID-19 in one outbreak. Everyone that wore a mask stayed safe. Wear a mask, if you want to protect your eyes, then the face shield might help, but never wear it alone.

[At least not till we know more. From Dr Brown of Seattle, one of my most trusted sources.]

SEEKING HOUSING

I lived on Elizabeth street about five years ago and loved it, and since then have cleaned many of your houses or watched your dogs. The old house I am living in now has had sudden mold growth and so I am looking for a new place to move; I would love to return to the Colombia-Eldridge neighborhood. I’m looking for a place to live for about two years while I prepare to buy my own home. I am a single, 33 year-old woman, self-employed as a professional editor. I have excellent renting history. I need pretty intense focus during the day while I work, so I’m looking for a quiet spot to live with plenty of natural daylight. When I’m not editing, I spend my time finishing my own book, going for hikes or runs, and cooking. I can afford up to $950+/- per month on rent and would love to be your neighbor. Thanks!  ~ Anni Kamola  360-389-6418

Please let us know if you or anyone you know is looking to rent out their home. Contact Kirsten Shelton- kirstenannas@yahoo.com. Thank you!

RADIO FREE FL!P: THE WATER IS WIDE

Karla Bonoff  sings and James Taylor on guitar, and finally joining in on vocal harmony. But I miss that last verse. There’s the verse that says Love grows old and waxes cold, and fades away like morning dew. But it doesn’t stop there. The last verse says, When sea sand turneth far inland, and mussels grow on every tree / When cockle shells turn to silver bells, then will I lose my love for thee. I will decide to love you anyway. Last night it was me and Zeke singing. Not as lovely, but it pleased us just fine. I love getting to make live music.

MISSING BLACK CAT

Large black cat from 2300 block of Lynn Street.  No collar, comes to the name Jojo. Solid black, no chip; he was a stray that adopted us a few years ago.  He is VERY large. Please contact Marcie 360 739 8900, if you see him. Thank you. ~ Marcie Pittman

FRIENDLY KITTY?

We live in the 2200 block of Victor Street & a very sweet kitty has been spending a lot of time here. He (she?) is a gray tabby with unusually fluffy fur and a bushy tail. He has no collar but is not thin or malnourished. We find him most days sitting in our garden beds and yowling for attention when we come outside. He will also come inside if we leave our back door open. Does this little sweetie have a home? We don’t want to encourage him to stay away from his place, but he seems as if he might be homeless, & if so, we’d like to take him in. I’m at susantonetta@gmail.com, or call 360-441-9900. FREE FREEZER

My parents have a 21 cubic foot Westinghouse (?) Energy Saver freezer.  They replaced it because it was icing up, but I believe it only needs a new door gasket. When I tried to get a new one for them, all of the retailers in town did’t have uprights. We were lucky to get one, but it’s only 17 cubic ft.  It was in a garage, but other then the gasket, it’s in perfect shape.  It’s quite heavy, so you will need at least two people to move it. Let’s just say, well made & no plastic.  When someone dibs it, this email account will be deleted.

RADIO FREE FL!P: ANITRA’S DANCE

MoNo Guitar Duo plays Grieg • 4 Hands Guitar
ht/t Nancy Kennell. My family had a narrated version of the Pier Gynt Suite when I was a kid, and I used to love dancing to this section. These days I wrestle with the balance of the joy with which musicians have always fallen in love with and adopted each other’s music, and the power imbalances that can turn that enthusiasm into cultural appropriation. It’s an ongoing question. Watching this couple at play with each other, this arrangement looks like a co-operative game of I Dare You! wrapped up with Tag, You’re It!

HELP WITH APPLE MAIL?

I’m fairly new to Apple Mail and am trying to get my email set up so it goes onto my computer and off the server in most cases. I also still have a bunch of Chalk photos I could use help learning to upload or forward or however I can transfer them to the Chalk website. I’m hoping to have that site updated and available before long. Handling the photos was the biggest thing that I didn’t know that I didn’t know, in advance. Thanks for your patience! I really believe we’ll get there in the end. ~ Fl!p 360-671-4511

RADIO FREE FL!P: A SONG IS SOMEWHERE TO BEGIN

TR Ritchie spent the last years of his life here in Bellingham. What can I say? This song is so simple and so strong. I want a world where every single one of us receives respect and compassion as a birthright. It’s not always easy. It’s often a real challenge. It’s the person I was raised to be scared of. It’s the old friend I had a falling out with. It could be a person next door, the one with the political sign that I’m upset about. They are my neighbor. And I am yours.

Tonight’s band:

FREE HARMONY

Thursday, June 18,  6:00 – 8:00 PM Free

Classic folk-rock harmonies: Chuck Dingée and Sharon Mayson’s beautiful vocals are what make Free Harmony unique and a treat to listen to. They formed the duo in 2017 and have been busy entertaining people in the Northwest ever since.

A founding member of Bellingham’s popular classic rock band The Walrus, Chuck has been singing and playing in the area for over 40 years.  He has an eclectic repertoire of hundreds of songs from Gershwin to Beatles to Pink Floyd.

Having sung all her life, Sharon has an incredibly smooth voice and performs in local Northwest bands High Spirits and Pacific Twang.

Together they play an entertaining mix of songs ranging from the 60s to present, by artists like Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Emmylou Harris, John Denver, Indigo Girls, The Police, Pink Floyd, Eagles, Bonnie Raitt, and many others. In March 2019, Free Harmony was opening act for the band America at the Tulalip and Legends Casinos in Washington state

SCHOOL WITH MASKS?

Please don’t snap Billy’s mask in his face.
Your mask is not a necklace, bracelet, or any other form of jewelry.
You should not be using your mask as a slingshot. Please put it back on your face.
Please do not chew on your mask.
Your mask should be on your face, not on the back of your head
I’m sorry your mask is wet, but that’s what happens when you lick the inside of it.
I’m sorry you sneezed. Here’s a tissue. Wipe out the snot as well as you can.

RADIO FREE FL!P:  OLD FAT BOAT

Gordon Bok – I grew up in a family that sailed. We had a little wooden boat that we took out on the lake on summer weekends and sometimes even in the evenings at high summer. My brother and sister both grew up to build boats and sew sails. I never learned to sail, but I learned to love sailboats…

ALERT: ATTEMPTED CAR PROWL?

At about 7:15 tonight (Monday) my car alarm went off, something that can’t easily happen without someone trying to get into the car without the fob nearby. In the back seat of my car was a container of used pet syringes I was planning on taking to the pharmacy today for disposal but couldn’t because of the holiday. I forgot the container when I returned from shopping. It was clearly visible on the seat and may have drawn the person’s attention. We called 911 and an officer drove by to check on the block, but wanted the neighborhood to know and keep their cars secure. Thanks, Rebecca Mabanglo-Mayor 2500 Williams Block

CHALK REPORT

I think we should schedule viewing from 2:00 to 5:00 PM on Fourth Of July. I’d love to get the chalk distributed at least a week or two early.

There are over 100 sets of sidewalk chalk stacked in our front entry way. Thanks to everyone who helped get them here, especially Susanne & Brittany. But there are 1700 houses in our neighborhood! I have no idea how many households will decide to participate, but there seems to be something of both a local and a national shortage of sidewalk chalk. If you plan to join in (and I hope you will!), please try to get your chalk sooner rather than later. If you find a source with LOTS of chalk (cheap) please let me know right away and I’ll try to get it. Or you could. If anyone can help pay for chalk, I can take donations.

As I may have mentioned, I’m making this up as I go along. I’d love to hear your ideas, and if anyone wants to give me a good listening to, I have noticed I think better with extra ears and kind hearts nearby.

TECH ASSISTANCE

Awhile back you posted a woman who wanted old tablets for the Mt. Baker Assisted Facility.  I have one but I can’t download my photos onto a laptop or other device. If anyone knows how to do this, let me know. It’s an old tablet that doesn’t seem to connect with my new lap top.
Thank you.

CORRECTION

I received some help from local journalism professionals, and am taking it to heart. An important part of US legal structure is that every person is innocent until proven guilty. It is particularly important for people writing to an audience to be rigorous with our language. There was a person who was arrested in our neighborhood last week on suspicion of stalking. They have not been formally charged yet, let alone convicted. I will be far more careful with my language as I follow up on this arrest. I can make sure our neighborhood has needed information without acting like judge and jury myself, or encouraging my neighbors to do so. Thank you!

SONG: GARDEN SONG

Written by David Mallet, and sung by Pete Seeger here. Our dinner tonight was stir fry from our garden. Someone who’s gardening skills I respect once told me that the bugs & slugs go for the sweetest veggies, so I’m experimenting with cleaning the stuff that’s been nibbled on and cooking it. Seems to be working fine so far! If anyone is going shopping for more garden starts, I’d love it if you’d pick me up a few more too. Call for specifics: 360-671-4511
